WELCOME TO PANV’S PRO BONO PAGE
Pro Bono means providing or assisting to provide quality legal services in order to enhance access to justice for persons of limited means; charitable, religious, civic, community, governmental and educational organizations in matters that are designed primarily to address the legal needs of persons with limited means; or individuals, groups or organizations seeking to secure or protect civil rights, civil liberties or public rights.
PANV is an enthusiastic supporter of paralegal involvement in pro bono activities. PANV’S very first pro bono/community involvement program was to support the Adopt-A-Marine Family Program at Henderson Hall in Arlington, VA. PANV will continue to support this Program each year during the Christmas Holiday by raising funds to purchase gifts and gift cards for Marine families. Most PANV members are active in pro bono endeavors either in their specialty or in another area of the law or within their community.
PANV’S total pro bono hours for 2008 totaled 180.85. Pro bono hours for 2007 totaled 187.9. PANV is proud of its members’ increasing commitment to the pro bono community!
As the recipient of the NFPA Individual Pro Bono Award for 2008, Joanne Randa, a Senior Paralegal with Cooper Ginsberg Gray, PLLC, and PANV Pro Bono Co-Chair, received $1,000 to be given to the pro bono organization of her choice. Joanne chose two pro bono organizations to share this award: Legal Services of Northern Virginia and Adopt-A-Marine Family Program.
Pro Bono opportunities may include: Asylum Law, Human Rights, Immigration Services, Uncontested Divorce Clinics, The Foreclosure Legal Assistance Project, and Translation for Non-English Speakers.
